RIDGWAY — The Elk County and McKean County community foundations, affiliates of the Community Foundation of the Northern Alleghenies, added 13 new high school scholarships this year.
This has increased the total scholarships awarded by the foundation to $185,000 available to students across seven counties.
The foundations have distributed all post-secondary or vocational school scholarship applications to the high school guidance departments.
Each scholarship that is available has a different focus. Some of the new scholarships are the Kathy Lepovetsky, David L DeLullo and Sister Leroy C. Krise awards.
The DeLullo and Krise scholarships are for students from all of the high schools in Elk County as well as nontraditional students; Thorwart and Frank are for Johnsonburg students; and the Lepovetsky and Peters awards are for St. Marys Area High School students; the Sauers is for Kane students; and the Legion Auxiliary award is for St. Marys High and Elk Catholic students.
Additional graduate scholarships are available for music, law, medical and nursing.
This year high school students can also apply for the Inez and Ole Bull Scholarships.
The Community Foundation is one of 38 statewide partners with PATH (Partners for Access to Higher Education).
Students who receive a scholarship award from the Community Foundation may qualify for matching dollars through PHEAA and the PATH program. In 2017 over $60,000 was matched to our local students.
All the scholarships and their qualifications for the Elk and McKean County community foundations, or the Community Foundation of the Northern Alleghenies, are listed on the Community Foundation website at www.elkcountyfoundation.com.
