Owls come up short against Dutch; Coudy drops 100 on Austin

ST. MARYS — What had been a close game in the first half was blown open in the third quarter as St. Marys defeated Bradford 66-46 in Tuesday’s D9 League contest.

The Dutch outscored the Owls 22-11 in the third quarter to move to .500 on the season (8-8 overall, 3-5 D9 League).

Bradford, meanwhile, suffered a disappointing setback after Saturday’s win over Brookville.

“Defensively we really struggled,” BHS coach Brian Hobbs said. “We just didn’t have that same energy we had on Saturday. We weren’t good at helping with penetration and we let (Nathan) Schneider get deep in the paint too many times.”

Schneider scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Dutch, while Jared Groll (12 points) and Anthony Cortina (10) also finished in double figures.

Hobbs also praised the job St. Marys did on the defensive end.

“That’s probably the best defense I’ve seen St. Marys play all year,” he said. “They dug in and did a nice job defensively.”

Deondre Terwilliger led Bradford with 22 points.

“Deondre did well on the offensive end,” Hobbs said. “He got some shots off and he got to the rack.”

    Tyler Gigliotti added 10 points.

St. Marys was especially dominant on the boards, outrebounding Bradford 38-24 and scoring 15 points off of offensive rebounds.

The Owls (8-8 overall, 4-2 D9 League) will be back in action on Friday when they host Brockway.

    NORTH TIER LEAGUE

    Coudersport 100, Austin 33

AUSTIN — The Falcons scored 38 points in the first quarter and 62 in the first half en route to putting up a cool 100 against the Panthers on Tuesday in North Tier League action.

Owen Chambers (22 points), Jard Green (18), Hunter Ricke (18), and Derek Keglovits (13) all finished in double figures for Coudy in the win.

Jackson Glover and Dempsey Glover both scored seven points for Austin.

Coudersport (14-1 overall, 12-0 NTL) will host Otto-Eldred on Thursday. Austin (9-7 overall, 4-7 NTL) visits Cameron County on Thursday.

Oswayo Valley 68, Northern Potter 28

ULYSSES — The Green Wave cruised to a big NTL win on Tuesday, holding the Panthers to just 12 points in the second half.

Theo Henry scored a game-high 22 points to lead OV, while Gavin Babcock added 15 points of his own.

A.J. Lehman was NoPo’s leading scorer with 11 points.

Oswayo Valley (10-7 overall, 6-5 NTL) hosts Galeton on Thursday, while Northern Potter (0-17, 0-13) visits Port Allegany on Thursday.

    Cameron County 51, Galeton 35

GALETON — After the score read 10-10 after one quarter, it was all Cameron County the rest of the way, as the Red Raiders won their fifth straight to improve to 11-1 in NTL play.

Ty Bauer led Cameron County with 16 points, while Adam Shaffer (11 points) and Marcus Brown (eight points, 10 rebounds) also had nice games.

Isaiah Shuemaker and Evan Brooks led Galeton with 10 points each.

Cameron County (13-2 overall) hosts Austin on Thursday, while Galeton (4-10 overall, 3-7 NTL) travels to Oswayo Valley on Thursday.
