NTL roundup: Coudy hits 15 3s in win over Galeton

GALETON — The Coudersport boys did their best Golden State Warriors impression on Tuesday night, hitting 15 3-pointers en route to a 79-26 North Tier League victory over Galeton.

“Our guys defended and we hit some shots,” Coudy coach Brian Furman said. “That’s a pretty good combination.”
Leading the way for the Falcons was Owen Chambers, who hit seven 3-pointers for a game-high 27 points. Jared Green added 20 notched in the victory.

Joel Griffen led Galeton with 11 points.

Coudersport (6-1 overall, 4-0 NTL) will travel to face undefeated Ridgway on Friday in what figures to be one of the games of the year in boys basketball.

“They’re just really good,” Furman said of Ridgway. “They’re probably the elite team in the district right now. It’ll be a good test for us.”

Galeton (2-4 overall, 1-2 NTL) will visit Cameron County on Thursday.

    Smethport 53, Austin 45

AUSTIN — The Hubbers used a balanced attack to overcome an early deficit to defeat the Panthers on Tuesday.

After trailing 28-23 at halftime, Smethport outscored Austin 30-17 the rest of the way. Six different Hubbers scored at least six points, with Eric Szarowicz (12 points) and Connor Alfieri (10) leading the way.

Dempsey Glover scored a game-high 17 points for Austin, with Parker Glover adding 11 of his own.

Smethport (5-2 overall, 3-0 NTL) will visit Otto-Eldred on Thursday. Austin (6-3 overall, 1-3 NTL) hosts Cameron County on Monday.

Oswayo Valley 53, Port Allegany 50

PORT ALLEGANY — Oswayo Valley outscored the Gators 14-8 in the fourth quarter to secure their first NTL win of the season.

Theo Henry led the Green Wave with 21 points, and Gavin Babcock hit five three-pointers to give him 15 points.

Port Allegany hit nine threes in the game, including five from David Talkington, who had a game-high 24 points.

“We came back, but fell short,” Port Allegany head coach Jeff Stuckey said. “We led off and on at different points in the game and we played one of our best games of the season. It really could‘ve went either way.”

The Gators (1-6 overall, 0-3 NTL) play next Saturday at Northern Potter, while Oswayo Valley (4-3 overall, 1-1 NTL) will host that same Northern Potter team on Thursday.

Cameron County 67, Northern Potter 29

ULYSSES — The Red Raiders put forth a solid all-around effort in their NTL win over the Panthers on Tuesday.

Marcus Brown notched a double-double, racking up 17 points and 15 rebounds. Dino Brown also scored 17 points, while Adam Shaffer added 12.

Holden Cowburn led Northern Potter with eight points.

Both teams will be on the road on Thursday: Cameron County (5-1) will be at Galeton, while Northern Potter (0-8) visits Oswayo Valley.
