COUDERSPORT — A Coudersport woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Saturday morning on U.S. Route 6 in Eulalia Township.
Melissa Tracy, 57, died in the accident, Coudersport-based state police reported.
According to police, at 1:15 a.m. Saturday, a car operated by Kyler Rider, 21, of Coudersport, was traveling east on Route 6, while a car operated by Tracy was exiting the east entrance of the Sweden Valley Manor. The front of Rider’s car struck the driver’s side of Tracy’s car.
Tracy was transported via Coudersport EMS to Cole Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by Dr. Howard Fugate, police stated. Rider was also transported to Cole Memorial for treatment of minor injuries.
Police said Tracy was wearing a seatbelt, while Rider was not.
The Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department and Pennsylvania Department of Transported assisted on scene.
According to the fire department’s Facebook page, the ambulance “arrived on-scene within minutes of the crash” and reported there was one person trapped in a vehicle. A helicopter was requested, and a crew arrived a short time later and began to free someone, who was then taken “immediately to CCMH and the awaiting helicopter.”
The fire department said that state police requested that an accident reconstructionist come to the scene. Also, Route 6 was closed to all traffic from the time of the accident to around 4 a.m.
Police did not say whether charges would be filed in the accident.
The investigation is ongoing.
