The Bradford High volleyball team got a much-needed win on Tuesday night to move its record above the .500 threshold.
The Lady Owls topped Sheffield in three sets by the score of 25-17, 25-15, 25-20. The victory puts Bradford’s record at 6-5.
“The girls have definitely been playing with a lot more confidence,” coach Steve Burgess said. “They’re more focused now. We know we only have roughly five matches left. We put it out there that in order to finish strong, we need to win these next five games.”
Bradford got contributions from numerous players. Ashton McGriff had a team-high 13 kills, while Laney Kahle provided 32 assists. Both Ashton Himes and Alexis Huber notched six kills apiece, while Brinya Moffett (two aces, three kills, two blocks, two digs) and Morgan Tyger (two kills, one assist, one dig) did a bit of everything.
“They were focused today,” Burgess said of his team. “They’ve had good practices. They passed well tonight, which opens up the offense. The whole team did a great job.”
Bradford will be back in action on Thursday when the Lady Owls visit Ridgway.
NORTH TIER
Otto-Eldred 3, Smethport 0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-12)
DUKE CENTER — Otto-Eldred’s Camryn Thomas reached a volleyball milestone with 1,001 kills and the unbeaten Lady Terrors swept Smethport in three games (25-17, 25-11, 25-12) Tuesday.
Thomas recorded seven kills in the match to move up to the elite plateau, and was also credited with four blocks, nine digs, seven service points and one ace.
“Camryn has done a great job every year she has played,” said Otto-Eldred coach Jame Thomas. “With her work ethic she definitely deserves it. She works hard and comes to every game, plays hard and is fun to watch.”
Supporting Thomas were Alyssa Shelander (10 kills, 9 digs), Allison Cousins (8 kills, 9 digs) and Emily Smith (24 assists, 14 service points, 1 ace).
Leading the Lady Hubbers (7-5) were Abbey Woodard (4 kills, 2 aces, 1 block) and Alana Durphey (14 digs).
Otto-Eldred, now 14-0 overall, travels to Coudersport on Thursday.
Oswayo Valley 3, Northern Potter 0 (25-11, 26-24, 25-8)
ULYSSES — The Lady Green Wave earned a three-set victory on Tuesday to improve to 12-5 overall and 7-5 in league play.
Shayla Bickel had a solid all-around match with seven aces, 11 digs, nine kills, and 10 points. Also contributing for OV were Madison Miller (1 ace, 21 assists, 13 points) and Makenzie Karr (four aces, seven kills, 10 points).
For Northern Potter, Jenna Hyde had six assists and six digs, while Ashley Kunselman (seven digs, five kills) and Kalie Cowburn (one block, seven digs) also pitched in.
Oswayo Valley hosts Galeton on Thursday, while Northern Potter (1-12 overall, 1-11 league) travel to Port Allegany on the same day.
