Initial reports of a man with a gun at Bradford Regional Medical Center on Friday turned out to be unfounded, city police say.
At 3:26 p.m., the city police department was dispatched to a report of male who had a firearm at the pediatrics office on the fourth floor of the hospital. After responding, authorities found the unidentified man did not have a weapon, said Bradford City Assistant Police Chief Mike Ward.
Initial reports said that the man seemed agitated and that another individual beside him seemed worried. Ward said that no one at the hospital was threatened.
Upper Allegheny Health System officials released a statement on the incident.
“Police responded very quickly and apprehended the man almost immediately. We didn’t need to go to lock down status,” said hospital spokesman Dennis McCarthy.
Ward said that the man sought mental help at the hospital following the incident. No charges are pending at this time, he said.
Police officers were on scene for about an hour. Bradford and Foster Township police departments also responded to the hospital.
