McKean County District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer will hold a seminar at the Bradford Area Public Library from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday.
She will discuss the criminal justice process in McKean County. The seminar is free and open to the public.
Shaffer is a graduate of Pitt-Bradford with a degree in criminal justice and University at Buffalo School of Law with a concentration in criminal law. Prior to her election as the district attorney, she was a partner in the law firm Clarke & Shaffer LLP; was appointed, by the court, to be the McKean County Guardian Ad Litem with the responsibility for representing the welfare of the county’s dependent children; and was appointed the special assistant public defender of McKean County.
Shaffer will speak about the criminal justice process in McKean County. She will explain what happens between the arrest and resolution and why. She will also discuss how a sentence is determined. She will be available to answer general questions about criminal justice.
