A recycling project at the Poor Farm near Smethport hit a snag on Tuesday after bids came in over a grant amount awarded for the work.
McKean County Commissioners opened a bid from JC Whitford totaling $204,421.22; and from Bob Cummins Construction Co., at $154,749.50, to place a concrete pad, two recycling bins and a compactor at the recycling location along U.S. Route 6. The state Department of Environmental of Protection grant totals $102,655.
Justin Lund, the county’s recycling coordinator, said the commissioners will provide an update at the Sept. 12 commissioners meeting.
“We’re going to review the bids for compliance to see if they meet the specs and then we’ll make a decision on September 12,” Commissioner Al Pingie said.
In other business, the commissioners:
• entered into a $285,522 funding agreement for emergency management agencies in a six-county area, including McKean. The money would be used to develop special capabilities to be used throughout the counties, including a dive team.
• awarded $16,311 in county aid to Bradford City and $1,241 to Lewis Run Borough. Commissioner Cliff Lane wasn’t sure what the money would be used for when contacted for comment Tuesday.
