The McKean County Arts Council says, “Let There Be Art.”
And art there will be, when the organization sponsors its first event from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at The Landmark Cafe in Bradford.
“Let There Be Art” is the opening reception for an exhibit of work by three local artists, according to Debbie Souchik, a member of the board of directors and an artist in her own right. She is with Babes in Arms Photography on Main Street.
On display will be pieces by Greg Souchik of The artist was here, Ashley Wilson-Rew of Ashley Wilson-Rew Art and Rich Minard of Rick Minard’s Fine Art Studio.
Through Facebook, the council invites attendees to “Learn more about the recently formed McKean County Arts Council and how you can get involved. If you’re an artist, musician, craftsman, or just a creative soul, we would love to get to know you.”
The council was a project by four recent Leadership McKean graduates.
The group formed to support all types of art — not just visual. Among other things, participants have expressed an interest in offering arts classes and programs for children and in working with other art-minded organizations in the area.
Since forming, the non-profit council has elected a board of 11 members to oversee it.
Along with the visual art at the event, “There will be music and refreshments,” said Debbie Souchik. “There will also be a short presentation to share what is going on with the council and future goals and objectives.”
She noted, “There is no cost to attend but people will have the opportunity to donate.”
Northwest Bank and Protocol 80 Inc. are also sponsoring the event.
The McKean County Arts Council’s next public meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Landmark Cafe.
