VFW Post 212 will be hosting its first Duck Race Regatta this Saturday.
The duck drop will be at noon at the trail bridge at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Prior to the event, individuals with the post will be checking the area to confirm the water level is high enough at the creek for the race.
The end point will be at the Barbour Street bridge.
The points for drop and pick-up are subject to change depending on water levels.
There will be a chicken barbeque provided by A&B BBQ.
Chicken dinners are reserved $10 each, and include chicken, corn, beans and a salad.
Jim Ronan & Co will be supplying the live music for the event from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.
There will also be games for attendees to enjoy.
Aside from the entertainment, Frances Sherman Auxiliary will be holding a baked goods sale throughout the day.
A number of auxiliary members will be there selling baked goods.
“Vets Club member Matt Wilber and auxiliary President Amy Peterson discussed it and decided it would be a fun thing to do,” stated Val Meacham, VFW member.
According to Meacham, Wilber ordered a variety of rubber ducks dressed in Army, Navy, Air Force, as well as Marine attire.
There are even some ducks that will be dressed as pirates.
According to Meacham, they are hoping for a good turn out for the race.
“Public is always encouraged with a proper ID,” she said. “Anything getting some community involvement is always a good thing.”
There will be prizes awarded for first through fourth place.
Ducks for the race are a $5 donation.
All proceed will benefit general funds, as well as the PA Veterans Foundation.
