SECAUCUS, N.J. — Cole Peterson, St. Bonaventure’s all-conference shortstop, became the latest Bonnie to have his name called during the MLB Entry Draft when the Detroit Tigers selected him in the 13th round Wednesday.

Peterson, a 2014 Johnsonburg High graduate, hit a career best .335 during his junior year this spring while swiping 24 bases, both team highs. He was named to the Atlantic 10’s first-team all-conference team a year after being tabbed a second-team selection.

Peterson’s selection comes seven years after fellow Elk County product and former Bonnie shortstop Jesse Bosnik (Elk Catholic) was drafted by the Dodgers, also in the 13th round. Peterson’s teammate Aaron Phillips was taken in the ninth round on Tuesday.
Phillips and Peterson are the 13th and 14th players drafted during head coach Larry Sudbrook’s 32 years as the leader of the St. Bonaventure program.
Ryan Uhl, a first baseman at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, was the most recent draft pick from Elk County, as the St. Marys graduate was taken by the Mariners in the seventh round in 2015.
