EMPORIUM — It looked for a while like there might not be any offense for either side in this one.
However, some late runs gave Cameron County a comfortable cushion in the end as the Lady Red Raiders topped Otto-Eldred, 5-1, in North Allegheny softball action on Monday.
Cameron County was powered by Laila Smith’s two-hitter on the mound, as she was able to strike out 10 while walking just one.
“She held us in the game the first five innings,” Cameron County coach Ralph McKimm said. “We couldn’t get anything across, but she kept it 1-0 until our offense got going.”
That offense finally arrived in the sixth inning, as Alyvia McKimm notched a two-run single to give Cameron County a little more breathing room after having to cling to a 1-0 lead for most of the game.
Payton Bloom went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored, while Madi Guisto added two singles.
O-E’s Alyssa Shelander went the distance, striking out five and walking two.
