An Eldred man who is required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law has been jailed on allegations he failed to follow his requirements.
Shannon Eugene Shroyer, 47, of 34 Canfield Hollow Road, was arraigned Saturday before District Judge Dominic Cercone on a charge of failure to comply with registration requirements, a felony, court records stated.
Shroyer was released from state prison on Feb. 21, and, once he was released, he was required to register his new address with state police within three business days.
On March 24, state police tried to reach Shroyer at 34 Canfield Hollow Road but were unable to make contact with him, court records state. On April 27, an officer talked to Shroyer’s wife, who verified that he lived at the address between Feb. 21 and March 16, when he was incarcerated again.
Regarding the incident for which he had been incarcerated, on Jan. 16, 2014, Shroyer entered a plea — which was a mix of a guilty plea and a no contest plea — to allegations that on Aug. 17, 2013, while he was a patient at The Bradford Manor, he waved a pocket knife at nurses, rubbed a nurse’s breasts and between her legs and spit in the open mouth of a Bradford Township police officer. Shroyer has hepatitis C, so the officer had to undergo tests to see if he contracted the disease, court records state.
It is due to an indecent assault charge in this case that Shroyer must register as a Tier 1 sex offender, which has a registration period of 15 years.
Shroyer is incarcerated in McKean County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, and he is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Thursday.
