Cameron County 17, Port Allegany 11
PORT ALLEGANY — Cameron County rallied from an 11-5 deficit to hand Port Allegany a 17-11 loss in Northern Allegheny League baseball action on Friday.
The Gators seemed headed for their second win of the season when the wheels came off the cart. Cameron scored 12 runs in the final three innings to pull out the win.
“Our starting pitcher, Dave Talkington, was cruising along and then he had some issues and we had to make a pitching change,” said Nate Zitnick, Port Allegany coach. “They had some hard hit balls, others just dropped in and things just changed.
“A couple calls also went their way and the momentum changed in a hurry. They brought in Adam Shaffer, who is a good pitcher, and all we got off him was one hit. We also made a couple errors and things just worked out for them.”
Shaffer picked up the win in relief.
Leading the Red Raiders at the plate were Bryce Bauer with a triple, and Shaffer, Tristan Reed, Adam Streich and Derek Rieder all with a double.
The Gators used four pitchers, but couldn’t stop the Red Raiders once they got their rally going.
Howie Stuckey and Trey Stiles each had two doubles for Port Allegany.
Port (1-6) travels to Coudersport on Wednesday.
Elk Catholic 14, Smethport 1
SMETHPORT — Visiting Elk Catholic pounded out 11 hits on the way to a seven-inning non-league high school baseball victory over Smethport (3-4) on Friday.
The Crusaders finally broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the third and continued to build from there, capping their day’s work with five runs in the seventh.
Starting pitcher Brady Schneider picked up the win in five innings of work. He collected six strikeouts and gave up three walks.
At the plate for ECC, Frank Singer went 3-for-4 and Brad Dippold 2-for-3.
The Hubbers avoided the shutout with a run in the fifth inning.
“We just never got things going offensively,” said Smethport coach Colby Austin. “We are at DuBois Central Catholic Saturday which will be our fifth game this week.”
Oswayo Valley 7, Coudersport 1
SHINGLEHOUSE — Oswayo Valley (9-2) played a clean, complete game for a six-run victory over the Falcons (6-5).
Starter Ryan Graves went five strong innings for the Green Wave, striking out six and walking three while surrendering just two hits. At the plate Jacob Karr went 2-for-2 with an RBI double.
“Ryan pitched a heck of a game keeping them off balance and our defense was outstanding,” OV coach Brad Buchholz said. “It was nice to get a key league win for our two seniors Grant West and Garret Babcock.”
Elliot Hite drove in Coudy’s only run, as he went 2-for-2 at the plate.
