We’re not kitten’ around!
The McKean County SPCA will be hosting its annual Kitten Shower from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the shelter on 80 Glenwood Ave. in Bradford.
“This time of the year, shelters see an increase in pregnant cats coming in. This event helps us raise the money needed to help with the supplies we will need for them and their babies,” local SPCA officials said via Facebook.
The event will include a basket contest, punch and cookies and games like beanbag toss. But headlining the Kitten Showers will, of course, be the felines.
If the weather holds out on Saturday, people will be able to interact with cats in the SPCA’s catio. At the very least, people will be able to see cats indoors.
Individuals will also be able to suggest names to be given to five kittens. People are also encouraged to donate Purina Kitten Chow and toys at the Kitten Shower.
People will also be able to adopt the felines. As of Wednesday, the SPCA had about 85 adult cats that can be adopted, and about 20 kittens that will be available for adoption starting in mid-May.
“We’re every excited. This is one of our favorite events,” McKean County SPCA Executive Director Chris Taylor said. “It’s just a fun party. It’s like an open house.”
The idea of a kitten shower dates back to 2014 after Taylor’s daughter was expecting a child, and it was time for a baby shower. Taylor said she got to thinking that showers shouldn’t be restricted to just humans.
“I think more and more people are coming than before to the Kitten Shower,” she said.
Dogs will also be included in the day’s activities. People are encouraged to bring dog chow.
“Stop in to support your local animal shelter. Please help us help them,” SPCA officials said.
