DUKE CENTER — Layla Smith went the distance and then some, pitching all nine innings as Cameron County outlasted Otto-Eldred, 5-3, in Northern Allegheny softball league action on Wednesday.
Smith gave up seven hits, three runs, and struck out 12 for Cameron County (3-1) in the winning effort.
Taylor Britten accounted for the game-winning RBI on a double in the top of the ninth inning. Also pacing the bats for Cameron County was Payton Bloom who went 2-for-4. Leading the Lady Terrors at the plate was Alyssa Shelander, who was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBI. For Otto-Eldred, they fall to 1-2 on the season.
“I am really proud of my team and everyone that filled in picked it up,” head coach Roger Veilleux said. “Cameron County played an excellent game.”
Otto-Eldred’s next game is home next Thursday against Smethport.
Port Allegany 9, Smethport 4
PORT ALLEGANY — A two-run home run by Anna Lathrop helped propel the Lady Gators (2-1) to victory on Wednesday.
Lathrop finished the game 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Jenna Sprankle went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Makenzie Burr was solid on the mound, striking out six and walking three.
“We came out hitting the ball and we played pretty good defensively,” Port Allegany coach Will Daniel said. “I thought our pitcher [Burr] really battled at the end of the game when she was in a couple of tight spots.”
Abbey Woodard knocked in two RBI for Smethport (0-2). Starter Emily Treat finished with six strikeouts and six walks.
