Black leads OV past O-E in season opener

SHINGLEHOUSE — On Friday, Garren Back was hit by a pitch on his throwing arm in a scrimmage with Bolivar-Richburg.

He showed no ill effects as the opening day starter for Oswayo Valley Monday.

Black allowed just two hits and struck out six to lead the Green Wave to a 10-0 five-inning blanking of Otto-Eldred in a Northern Allegheny matchup.

Oswayo Valley has won 22 straight regular season games dating back to 2015.

“It was nice to actually start on time weather-wise,” OV coach Brad Buchholz said. “I thought Garen pitched really well. His pitching arm was pretty sore for most of the weekend. He pitched through a little bit of pain and he pitched really well for us.”

Camden Graves finished 2-for-2 with three RBI while Jacob Karr (2-for-3) and Gage Babcock each had two RBI and Black a double for the Green Wave, who scored seven runs in the fifth to end the game.

Seth Drummond and Cameron McGee had the two hits for Otto-Eldred (0-1).

    Coudersport 9, Cameron County 4

EMPORIUM — A big sixth inning allowed the Falcons to top the Red Raiders in Cameron County’s season-opener.

Kullen Crosby went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Josh Stevens added a two-run single to pace Coudersport, while Kolby VanWhy struck out five out of the bullpen.

Cameron County was unable to capitalize on a solid start from Adam Shaffer, who fanned 10 batters. Tristan Reed went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

“We played five innings of really good baseball, but we made some mental mistakes that led to the majority of their runs,” Cameron County coach James Cooney said.

    Coudersport 6, Cameron County 4

EMPORIUM — Shae Black hit a two-run homer in the top of seventh to lead Coudersport to a come-from-behind victory in its season opener.

EmmaRae Easton and Maddie Smith combined to allow six hits while striking out six and walking only two for the Falcons, who plated two runs in the sixth to it at 4 before winning the game in the seventh. Stephanie Fry added two hits in the win.

Laila Smith had two hits, including a two-run single, and also threw a complete game (6 strikeouts, 6 hits, 2 walks) for Cameron County (1-1).

Alyvia McKimm (double) went 2-for-4 while Amily Schatz added a two-run double for the Red Raiders.

“They’re one of the frontrunners to win the North Tier League,” CC coach Ralph McKimm noted. “We had a couple of unearned runs that they took advantage of and that was the difference.”
