SMETHPORT — A Smethport man was convicted Tuesday by a McKean County jury of accepting money for construction work that he did not complete.
Shannon R. Donahue, 53, was found guilty of a charge of home improvement fraud, District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reported on Tuesday.
Donahue will be sentenced in March, Shaffer said.
In 2014, three criminal cases were filed against Donahue alleging that he took thousands of dollars in 2013 as advance payments for construction work on three separate home improvement projects in the Bradford area.
Court records filed at that time stated that he took nearly $30,000. Records indicate that he only performed work for one of the three victims, and that work was not done correctly, causing the victim to hire another contractor to fix his mistakes to bring the building up to code.
A trial date has yet to be scheduled for a second case Donahue faces on similar allegations, according to Shaffer.
Meanwhile, court records indicate a third case has been nolle prossed.
Court records indicate Donahue remains free on $30,000 unsecured bail.
Donahue was tried in absentia, as he “did not appear after having received notice,” according to Shaffer.
