ST. LOUIS –Gabby Richmond posted 18 points and eight rebounds whileJalisha Terry poured in 13 points of her own, but it was not enough for the St. Bonaventure women’s basketball team to overcome Saint Louis in a 64-49 decision Wednesday afternoon at Chaifetz Arena.

The Bonnies held the high-powered Billikens, the preseason favorite in the Atlantic 10, to 13 points under their season average of 77 and cut into their season scoring margin of +18.5. Bona now stands 6-11 overall and 1-4 in A-10 play while SLU is 14-3, 4-0.

AMatea Britvar jumper started the scoring, but the Billikens then embarked on a 12-2 run to lead by eight midway through the opening quarter.

After a scoring drought of nearly four minutes, Bona responded with a 6-0 break of its own to close within a bucket at 12-10.

The Bonnies were able to hang tight through the majority of the first half, but another cold spell on the offensive end coupled with late layups from the Billikens left the hosts with a 36-20 advantage at intermission.

Saint Louis continued to slowly pull away as the second half got underway, stretching its lead to 25 at one point.

Bona finished the game on a 12-2 run, however, outscoring the Billikens by a 29-28 margin during the second half.

Reigning A-10 Player of the Year Jackie Kemph led all scorers with 20 points while Jordyn Frantz registered 16 points and Sadie Stipanovich narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.

The usually potent Saint Louis offense was held in check, however, by the Bona defense. SLU entered the day first in the A-10 in field goal percentage at nearly 46 percent for the season, but connected on 36.9 percent of its attempts on Wednesday.

St. Bonaventure returns home on Sunday to face Fordham at the Reilly Center with tip off scheduled for 1 p.m.
