A Smethport man who must register as a sex offender was arrested on allegations he made a Facebook page that he did not register with state police.
Shawn Michael Pire, 45, of 1093 W. Branch Road, was arraigned Monday evening before District Judge William Todd on a charge of failure to comply with registration of sexual offender requirements, a first-degree felony, court records stated.
According to court records, at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, state police learned that Pire may have been using a Facebook page that he did not register with them, which would be a violation of his registration requirements. Police found a page that was listed under the name “Mike Pire” instead of “Shawn Pire.”
When contacted by police, Pire said he had a Facebook but did not know he was not supposed to have one, court records stated.
The Pennsylvania Megan’s Law website indicates that Pire was convicted to two counts of indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age for an incident on March 1, 1999.
Further, on Feb. 11, 2016, he pleaded guilty in a separate case to charges of corruption of minors and indecent assault. He pleaded guilty to allegations that on Sept. 27, 2015, Pire grabbed a 16-year-old girl’s hands, pulling her closer to him to kiss, and he put his hand up her shirt and grabbed her bare breast.
At the time Pire was first charged, he also faced a charge of promoting prostitution of a minor, but the charge was dismissed when he entered his plea, court records stated.
While no sentencing date for the 2015 incident was available on Monday, court records indicate an opinion and order dated for Dec. 30, 2016, stated that he has been deemed a sexually violent predator.
Pire was incarcerated on Monday in McKean County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail in the new case. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Jan. 19.
