The cold, blustery weather in McKean County isn’t all bad. In fact, it’s good for business.
Rental equipment and guided tours are on the rise, reported Linda Devlin, executive director of the Allegheny National Forest Visitors Bureau in Bradford, on Wednesday.
“Yes, I think we will have a better tourism season if we have snow this winter. Riders have been looking to get out on the trails after last year’s light winter snowfall,” she said.
For his part, Nathan Myers of Myers Motorsports of Kane said he receives calls from such locations as Pittsburgh, Harrisburg and other areas south of Interstate 80.
“When it snows, my phone rings off the hook,” Myers said.
During a good week, some 15 riders use Myers Motorsports. Guided trail rides are also offered for individuals renting equipment, and the route is typically from Westline to Kane and back to Lantz Corners, he said.
In its third season, the business, located at 3176 U.S. Route 219, is also planning to expand to offering UTVs and ATVs.
In addition, Myers Motorsports is partnering with Lantz Corners Getaways to offer snowmobile rental and lodging packages.

Kinzua ADVentures of Bradford is also offering guided tours throughout the year.
“Winter excursions by snowmobile during the snow season, and starting in the spring four different guided tours by motorcycle, along with an opportunity to book a boat tour of the Allegheny Reservoir,” Devlin said. “Guided snowmobile tours will take you into the forest to experience a true winter wonderland.”
The business is just starting, and no one has signed up yet, said owner Dave Lunden. He indicated that he has been having fun for years doing outdoor activities, and wanted to see if he could get paid for it.
“Everybody’s dream,” Lunden said.

At the visitors bureau, calls come in about the Kinzua Bridge State Park Visitors Center and the Kinzua Sky Walk being open in the winter.
The Kinzua Bridge Visitors Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed on Sunday, while the Kinzua Sky Walk is open year round with the hours of the park, 8 a.m. to dusk. The state park is four miles north of U.S. Route 6 at Mount Jewett.
