KINGSBURY GRAVE: After reading our column last week on the gravesite of Bradford founder Daniel Kingsbury and his wife, Ruby Kingsbury, an Era reader had more to share.
We mentioned a 2016 restoration, but our reader told us about one that took place 40 years prior.
The reader writes, “With regards to the RTS column (Nov 10, 2016) about the Kingsbury grave, the booklet, ‘Greater Bradford Bicentennial 1776-1976,’ pages 38-39 contains a write-up and photos of the site and the restoration effort which took place in 1976.
“The article states that at that time the site was restored by the seventh grade social studies students from School Street Junior High under the direction of their instructor and 30 students. Then, on May 30, 1976 a dedication with a memorial wreath, an appropriate ceremony as well as the unveiling of a plaque with the names of those involved was held.”
We didn’t have a copy of the book to look at in the newsroom on Tuesday night, but for any readers who are interested, it looks like “Greater Bradford Bicentennial 1776-1976” can be purchased through the Bradford Landmark Society’s website for $10 plus shipping and handling.
BIG CAT: Valerie and Duane Watson spotted this big cat earlier this month and shared it with us.
They write, “We noticed this beauty on our Gamecam yesterday! It was taken at our camp, located in Cameron County.”
The Watsons had speculated it was a bobcat, “But then someone questioned it and said it was possibly a lynx.” When looking at the lynx photographs on the internet, “They say that their markings are muted, not as vivid as this one. Those marks are so distinct and since there is no evidence of a tail, we are back to bobcat.”
Can anyone tell us anything about this beautiful (and frightful) creature?
“They are doing some drilling a few miles away and we are wondering if they didn’t flush him out of his normal habitat.”
