PORT ALLEGANY — A Pennsylvania Department of Transportation roadway improvement project is continuing on Route 46 in McKean County.
The project will result in five miles of new roadway and an additional 15 miles of improved roadway surface. The road will be closed to through traffic on Thursday from the McKean/Cameron County line to the U.S. Route 6 intersection near Smethport, according to PennDOT officials.
Full depth reclamation work began Sept. 12 on this section of Route 46 and problems with traffic using the road have persisted. Starting Thursday, this section of Route 46 will be closed to all through traffic. Flaggers and pilot vehicles will be used to provide access to local residents and drivers conducting business along this section, PennDOT officials said.
A detour for all non-local traffic will be in place. PennDOT’s official detour will make use of routes 6, 120, and 155. The detour is expected to last through October.
IA Construction Inc. is the contractor on the $3.13 million project that is expected to finish in late November.
