KNAPP CREEK, N.Y. — A teenager fell from a rock at Rock City Park Sunday evening, sustaining a compound leg fracture, said Gordon Scott, press officer for the Allegany Fire Department.
Emergency personnel found two roughly 18-year-old males at the scene, one having fallen onto the trail below and the other “wedged” approximately 45 feet above the ground, Scott said.
The teenager who fell suffered a compound leg fracture and received transport from a Mercy Flight helicopter, he said.
“They were both climbing the rocks,” Scott said. “The one that we Mercy Flighted fell and landed down below the trail.”
The teenager who did not fall sustained only minor injuries, he reported
“We enacted a rescue of him,” said Scott. “He was checked by our vehicle personnel and released. A couple bumps and bruises, but he was released. Very lucky.”
He added, “We had to rappel down from above and climb up from below to enact his rescue.”
The Mercy Flight helicopter landed at a nearby scenic overlook, he said.
Emergency personnel received the call at about 5 p.m. and had completed rescue operations by 7:20 p.m., Scott said.
