Boys Basketball
Smethport 86, Otto-Eldred 13
The Hubbers continued their march toward a top-seed in the D-9 Class A playoffs, easily disposing of O-E.
Zach Smith scored 30 points (the 5th such time he has done so this season) and Clay Schuler had a triple-double with 19 points, 13 assists and 10 steals.
If they hold serve next week, the Hubbers will either be the No. 1 or No. 2 seed depending on what North Clarion does. The Wolves, like Smethport, have lost just once this season.
Coudersport 50, Oswayo Valley 42
Without question the game of the night on the boys side.
Coudersport trailed by 16 going into the fourth quarter, but outscored the Green Wave 26-6 in the final eight minutes. Caden Whitman was big time, going 8-for8 from the foul line in the fourth.
John Michael Rigas had 17 to lead Coudy, while Grant Nolan had 15 points for OV and Spencer Howard 12.
It’s a loss that will sting for OV and is a feather in the cap for Coudy, but doesn’t change the fact that both teams are headed to the postseason.
Austin 56, Northern Potter 47
Austin picked up its second win thanks to 17 points from Kade Logue and 14 from Ben Clark.
Northern Potter got 17 from Matt Morgan.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Warren 40, Kane 32
Kane went toe-to-toe with one of District 10’s best.
Warren (15-4), fresh off a win over Mercyhurst Prep (which handed Bradford its only loss), got nine points from freshman D.J. Hahn in the fourth quarter.
The game was tied at 26-26, but Hahn and the rest of the Lady Dragons were able to capitalze off of a couple of Kane turnovers and make their free throws (6-of-7) down the stretch.
Kaila Jamerson had 12 points to lead Kane.
If there’s one thing this game proves, its that the Lady Wolves (17-4) are more than capable of winning a district championship in a very balanced Class AA.
Coudersport 61, Oswayo Valley 9
The Lady Falcons got 19 points from Jenna Gabreski as they won their fourth-straight.
This is another team that’s peaking at the right time as the playoffs loom.
