Girls basketball
Make it 12 in a row for the Port Allegany girls, as they beat Austin 52-20.
Somer Buchsenshutz (14 points), Becca Lathrop (12 points) and Brooke Roys (11 points) led the Lady Gators.
Cameron County and Coudersport look to be the two biggest hurdles for them to clear if they are to run the table the rest of the regular season.
Otto-Eldred’s comeback bid at home against Coudersport fell just short, 41-32.
Jenna Gabreski once again led Coudersport with 14 points.
The Lady Falcons are used to being at the top of the NTL. The same can’t be said in recent seasons for Otto, but they are much-improved under first-year head coach Heather Sheeler. This is a team and program that continues to get better.
Cameron County continued its surge, beating Smethport 40-34 for their sixth-straight win. At 9-8 overall and 7-2 in the NTL, it’s hard to believe this team started 0-5. Smethport was able to hold the red-hot Brooke Dunsmore somewhat in check with eigth points, but Susie Guisto stepped up and delivered with 10.
Also, Brooklynne Cowburn delivered 18 points and Taryn Bennett 16 points and 13 rebounds in Northern Potter’s 65-24 win over Oswyao Valley.
Boys Basketball
Galeton rallied from an eight-point second half deficit to beat Oswayo Valley, 56-51.
It was the second game in as many nights for the Green Wave (10-7) who got 19 points from Keagen Goodliff, who now has 40 in his past two games after being sidelined by a broken wrist.
Things don’t get any easier for OV when they travel to Smethport (15-1) Thursday.
Wrestling
Kane beat Oswayo Valley 54-24, although Jake Wichert improved to 18-1 and Sam Colebert 16-2 via forfeit for the Green Wave.
Also, if you’re planning on attending tomorrow’s Port Allegany at Smethport match, get there early. The two schools are hyped up for this matchup between the AML’s top two teams, who are both unbeaten in league action.
