IT’S PRIDE: “If you take a ride around Bradford, one thing you
might notice in a lot of neighborhoods is the lack of pride, or a
very obvious feeling of apathy.”
John Stoneman of Bradford dropped us an eline the other day,
hitting on a subject that’s been in the news a lot lately.
John had a suggestion: Check out James City.
Here’s what he writes: “Recently I was in the Kane area and saw
a very nice, neat sign for the town of James City, just south of
Kane. I had never been to James City and decided to take a drive
through it. I was actually shocked at what I saw! It was the
cleanest, neatest town I have ever seen. It was a small community,
but every house, yard and piece of property was well maintained. …
“
“The only difference I can tell between James City, and how neat
and clean all the homes are kept, and Bradford is ‘pride.’ It’s
quite striking to see such a community who collectively should be
commended for their pride! But it makes one wonder how a town that
isolated but that close to Kane and Bradford has such a definite
and distinct higher level of pride than the surrounding
communities.”
“Cleaning up Bradford won’t take a big change in our lifestyles.
Nor will it take a lot of money. All it would take, in my opinion,
would be trading a little of our ‘apathy’ for some good,
old-fashioned pride! Pride in our homes and yards, pride in our
neighborhoods, pride in our community!
“Maybe instead of just doing the minimum to see that our homes
and properties aren’t the ‘worst on the block’ we can all strive to
make our homes and yards the ‘best on the block.’
“A little repainting, a little more landscaping, and maybe
getting rid of some junk or debris from our backyards! If we all
did just a little to each of our yards or homes the cumulative
effect would add up! A few steps in the right direction would make
a very noticeable difference in our town and neighborhoods. And I
believe an increase in our pride will breed more pride! Bradford
just needs a little more pride, and a little less apathy!
“Go visit James City and you’ll see what I mean!” It’s on Route
66, south of Kane.
