Bradford Lady Owls return six letterwinners
The Bradford softball team has six returning letterwinners, all ready to lend their experience to teammates and put in the work for a successful season.
Seniors Carly Grubbs and Addy Brown are forces and strong leaders, lending experience, while fellow letterwinners Alexis Kicior, Bella Zandy, Daisy Greene and Jackie Sipko bring a mix of versatility and position-specific knowledge that provide balance for the team.
Senior Carly Grubbs is expected to dominate in center field. With her speed and tenacity, she is the heartbeat of Bradford’s outfield, according to her coaches. Senior Carly Grubbs is set to be a force in center field this season, and the team is counting on her to lead the outfield. With her speed and determination, her coaches expect her to have a big impact defensively all season.
Senior Addy Brown has lettered every year since her freshman season, bringing experience and leadership to the team. As our starting first baseman, Addy has an amazing glove and an exceptional ability to scoop throws. The coaching staff notes she has also been a leader and positive influence for our underclassmen.
Alexis Kicior made her debut in softball last year and quickly proved herself as a second baseman. Now just a sophomore, she will be the Lady Owls’ starting shortstop. Kicior is already commanding the infield, calling plays, and making key defensive stops look effortless. Per the coaching staff, there are very high expectations for Lexi this year.
Bella Zandy is considered Bradford’s most versatile player, able to excel wherever the team needs her. Whether in the infield, outfield, or stepping up at the plate, she brings energy and skill. Last season, she finished with an impressive .390 batting average, and we hope she can continue that consistency this year.
Daisy Greene will take the mound as our starting pitcher this season, coming off an impressive year with 80 strikeouts and just 31 walks allowed. Greene is also a standout at the plate, boasting last year’s team-high batting average of .449. With her dual threat of pitching and hitting, she will be a key player of the team’s success this season.
Jackie Sipko is stepping into a new role behind the plate this season, and she has been impressive. Following the graduation of last year’s starting catcher, we had concerns about filling such a key position. However, Sipko has quickly put those worries to rest with her strong defensive presence and ability to control the game.
Coaches Katie Greene, Taylor Sutryk and John Werlau are returning for their second season of collaborative guidance.
