Coroner identifies body found in Tunungwant Creek

The body found in the Tunungwant Creek behind Union Square
Sunday was that of Alan Keith Sheldon of 153 Main St.

According to McKean County Coroner Mike Cahill, Sheldon, 38,
died of drowning after falling into the creek from the area of the
parking lot behind the Sports Cafe restaurant.

No autopsy was performed, Cahill said, and a toxicology screen
was not taken either.

The death has been ruled accidental.

Bradford City Police were dispatched to the scene where
Sheldon’s body was located about 4:33 p.m. Sunday, according to
city police officer Mike Ward.

In addition to city police and Cahill, the Bradford City Fire
Department, McKean County District Attorney John Pavlock and County
Detective Jerry Okerlund were also at the scene, as well as an RNI
forensic evidence gathering unit out of Punxsutawney.

Ward said it is not at all unusual for city police to work with
the RNI unit, adding at first police “didn’t know what (they) had …
whether the death was suspicious or not.”

Ward said Bradford businessman and owner of the Sports Cafe,
Greg Huber, actually came into the station to advise police his
21-year-old son discovered the body while taking garbage to a
Dumpster behind the restaurant.

Sheldon’s body was only partially submerged in the creek, Ward
added, confirming there was nothing suspicious at the scene and the
body exhibited no visible injuries.

There was no further information available Monday.
