KANE -ðAt least one person was killed in a structure fire Sunday
morning on Champlin Hill Road in Keating Township.
According to Kane-based state police, fire broke out in a house
at 748 Chaplin Hill Road at about 6:45 a.m.
“One deceased person was found in the structure,” police said.
“Due to extreme heat, the cause of death and victim identification
have not been verified.”
McKean County Coroner Mike Cahill said deputy coroner Robert
Hartle was on scene. The individual was pronounced dead at 1 p.m.,
and an autopsy has been scheduled in Erie, Cahill said.
The house was destroyed, police said, adding further forensic
examination is scheduled.
There was no further information at press time Sunday night.
Fire crews from the Smethport Fire Department, Star Hose Engine
Co. (Port Allegany) and Norwich Township Volunteer Fire Department
were on scene. Eldred Township Volunteer Fire Department stood
by.
