EMPORIUM – Bradford’s Shelly Fuhrman pitched a five-hitter and
whiffed six as the Lady Owls defeated Cameron County 5-2 in high
school softball action Thursday.
“Shelly did a great job only allowing two walks and never gave
them the chance to get any momentum offensively,” praised BHS coach
Sue Aljoe.
In the second inning, Bradford’s Hope Ruffner got the job done
by lining a two-run single giving the Lady Owls a 4-0 lead.
“Hope had a great game today,” Aljoe noted. “She threw out
runners at critical times and had a clutch hit for us.”
Also leading Bradford were Erin Comilla with double, Fuhrman
added an RBI single and M. Clauser was credited with an RBI on a
base-on-balls.
“Erin and Shelly had key hits for us,” added Aljoe. “We did some
things wrong today, but we did a lot of things right, too. We were
a bit more stable defensively and I thought we played well once we
were able to relax. I was proud of how patient the girls were at
the plate today.”
Whitney Lewis had a double for the lone extra-base hit for the
Lady Red Raiders.
Marley Tallyen suffered the loss giving up six hits, whiffing
nine and walking 10.
“Cameron is a great team and they played well and made us earn
this win,” admitted Aljoe.
The Lady Owls (2-0) travel to Coudersport to face the Lady
Falcons today.
