The 33rd annual Big 30 Don Raabe Charities Classic rosters were
increased by six with this week’s additions.
Additions for the Pennsylvania squad include Anthony
Mastrogiacomo of Elk County Catholic, Josh Switzer of Smethport and
Zach Mattern of Warren.
Mastrogiacomo was a 6-1, 215-pound halfback and linebacker for
the Crusaders.
He will play football and major in business management at
Clarion University.
Mastrogiacomo was a three-year starter on the varsity, a team
captain, had the team’s most interceptions in 2004 and led the team
in rushing yards and touchdowns in 2005.
When asked why he wanted to play in the Big 30 Game,
Mastrogiacomo said, “I love to play football and I think it would
be a very exciting game to play in. It is a great honor.”
His biggest football thrills are beating Johnsonburg on a last
second field goal his junior year and playing with his younger
brother, who is a sophomore, during his senior year.
Mastrogiacomo’s hobbies include playing baseball, basketball and
cards. The Pittsburgh Steelers is his favorite team.
Switzer is a 5-9, 160-pound tailback and a defensive back for
the Hubbers.
He was MVP for football and a regional qualifier in
wrestling.
Switzer will attend a junior college and major in elementary
education. He says his reason for wanting to play in the Big 30
Game is “to play with other top quality athletes.”
Scoring four touchdowns against Sheffield is his biggest
football thrill.
Among his hobbies are football, baseball, hunting, fishing and
wrestling. The San Francisco 49ers is his favorite team while Barry
Sanders is his favorite player.
Mattern was a 5-11, 180-pound center and guard on offense and
linebacker on defense for the Dragons.
He will major in physical therapy at Gannon University.
Mattern is a member of the National Honor Society, Who’s Who
Among High School Students and an honor roll student. In 2005 he
was team captain and was named defensive player of the year. He
received the Iron Man Award three times.
When asked why he wanted to play in the Big 30 Game, he said,
“it’s for a good cause and it will give me a chance to play one
last game before I begin college and the rest of my life.”
His hobbies are working and hanging out with his friends. His
favorite team is the Pittsburgh Steelers and Joey Porter his
favorite player.
Highlighting the additions for New York are Nolan Christopher
from Cattaraugus-Little Valley, Brandon Lindsley of Pioneer and
Alex Woodhead of Portville.
Christopher was a 6-1, 180-pound running back on offense and
cornerback on defense.
His plans are to continue his education but is undecided where
at this time. He is a multi-sport athlete receiving varsity letters
in football, basketball and baseball.
When asked why he wanted to play in the Big 30 Game he answered,
“I just love playing football.”
Christopher’s biggest thrill was scoring an 80-yard touchdown on
the first play of the second half which led to victory.
His spare time is consumed playing sports and being in a band.
The Buffalo Bills is favorite team while Peyton Manning is his
favorite player.
Lindsley was a 6-2, 225-pound guard on offense and a linebacker
on defense.
He will major in physical education at Genesee Community
College. He was honored by being selected to the second-team
All-Western New York.
Lindsley’s response as to why he wanted to play in the Big 30
Game was, “I want to play against a team from another state and
have fun doing it.”
Winning the homecoming game 12-10 against Lake Shore is his
biggest thrill.
In his spare time he enjoys hunting, fishing, playing football
and baseball. His favorite team is the Buffalo Bills and London
Fletcher is his favorite player.
Woodhead was a 5-10, 170-pound tailback and linebacker.
He will attend Jamestown Community College majoring in
elementary education.
“I was picked to play in the Big 30 Game and it will also be the
last football game of my career,” Woodhead said about why he wanted
to play in the Classic.
Winning the championship at Ralph Wilson Stadium was his biggest
football thrill.
Woodhead’s hobbies are snowmobiling, snow boarding,
four-wheeling, wake boarding, hunting, fishing and working. The
Buffalo Bills is his favorite team and Takeo Spikes his favorite
player.
Today’s additions bring the totals to 48 players – 24 on each
team.
This year’s game will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 5 at
Bradford’s Parkway Field. The game pits graduated seniors from New
York against graduated seniors from Pennsylvania.
