Garage, vehicle destroyed in fire on Belleview Avenue

No one was injured when a garage on Belleview Avenue was
destroyed by fire early Saturday morning.

A 2005 Honda vehicle of unspecified make or model owned by Anne
Newcombe of 243 Jackson Ave. that was parked in front of the
garage, also owned by Newcombe, was also a complete loss, according
to Bradford City firefighters.

As firefighters were on their way to the call, reports indicate,
they were told the garage was “fully engulfed” in flames. Upon
arrival, a city firefighter said Sunday, the 30-by-40 foot
structure was “fully involved.”

The garage is located behind Newcombe’s Jackson Avenue
residence, but faces Belleview Avenue. There was also heat damage
to the siding and roof of the Newcombe residence, and heat damage
to the siding of 239 Jackson Ave.

The fire, which was initially reported at 3:30 a.m., also spread
to a nearby utility pole and power lines, disrupting electricity
service in the area.

Bradford City Fire Chief Bill McCormack said Penelec crews
restored service Sunday, but it was unclear how many customers were
affected or for how long.

Penelec representatives were not immediately available by
telephone Sunday night.

Five men and two vehicles from the city responded to the scene,
and extinguished the fire. Crews were back in quarters by 6
a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state police
fire marshal unit, McCormack said.
