The Bradford High Lady Owls opened their track and field season
with a 102-48 win over St. Marys on Tuesday.
“It was a good start overall,” praised BHS coach Larry Stillman.
“We are very strong in the sprints, hurdles, jumps and
distance.”
For Bradford, Erin Hannon (100 hurdles, high jump, long jump,
triple jump) and Lindsay Sherman (100 dash, 200 dash, 400 dash, 400
relay) quadrupled.
“Erin Hannon and Lindsay Sherman really had strong days,”
Stillman offered. “Erin had one of her best hurdle times ever
(15.2) and her triple jump (38’8″) was excellent. Lindsay ran hard
and finished strong in all her races.”
Sarah Lonzi (1600 run, 3200 relay), Katie White (800 run, 400
relay) and Renee Cavallaro (3200 run, 3200 relay) doubled for
Bradford.
“The distance girls looked sharp,” Stillman declared. “Sarah
Lonzi had an excellent 800 split and a very good 1600 race and
Katie White had two of her best times ever in the 800 and 1600.
“Renee had two good races and will be tough in the 3200, and
Paige Ambrose ran two solid races.
“As far as our sprinters go, Tricia Copeland and Dana Carrico
had good times in their races. Chloe Nickel had a great race in the
300 hurdles (48.1) with a faster time than districts last year.
“Bobbi Hopkins and Kevryn Boser looked good in both the 100 and
300 hurdles,” Stillman stated.
“In the jumps, Erica Pascarella and Katie Slavinski both looked
good and Tricia Copeland went over 30′ in the triple jump.
“In the throws, sophomore Katie Vecellio had an excellent start
to her year. She won the javelin, placed second in the discus and
third in the shot put.
“It is hard to throw all three, but she did well. Katlyn Nelson
(discus) and Megan Foster (javelin) also threw well.
“Caitlin Persichini placed second in the pole vault in her first
meet in two years. We saw a lot of positive things and things we
need to work on.”
The Lady Owls travel to West Mifflin for the TSTCA Outdoor
Invitational on Saturday.
