Six more players have committed to play in the 33rd annual Big
30 Don Raabe Charities Classic.
Today’s additions bring the total to 30 players – 15 aside – who
have accepted invitations to play in the Aug. 5 contest at Bradford
High’s Parkway Field.
Added to the Pennsylvania roster are Alex Dovensky of
Coudersport, Jameson Curtis of Eisenhower and Brandon Brown of
Otto-Eldred.
Dovensky, 5-10, 220 pounds, was an offensive guard-defensive
nose guard for the Falcons.
He will further his education at Indiana University of
Pennsylvania. He is an honor roll student and won a varsity letter
playing football.
Dovensky said, “It is an honor just being invited to play in the
Big 30 Game.”
His many thrills include winning the Allegheny Mountain League
and District 9 championships and playing in the PIAA semifinals in
2005.
Among his hobbies are hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and
snowboarding.
His favorite team is the Pittsburgh Steelers and Hines Ward is
his favorite player.
Curtis, 5-9, 165 pounds, was a running back and free safety for
the Knights. Jameson will attend Penn State Behrend. In 2005 he was
the team’s MVP and most valuable offensive back.
In 2004 he was the most valuable offensive back and in 2003 won
the defensive award for basketball.
“I want to take part in an experience of a lifetime and play
with the best athletes,” Curtis said in describing why he wants to
play in the Big 30 Game.
His biggest thrill was beating the number two team in the region
in the last minute of the game. He enjoys weightlifting, hunting,
baseball, basketball and football.
The Buffalo Bills is his favorite team while Doug Flutie is his
favorite player.
Brown, 5-10, 245 pounds, was an offensive tackle and an inside
linebacker on defense for the Terrors.
In 2004 and 2005 he was the homecoming defensive MVP. In 2004 he
was the most valuable lineman.
Brown will attend Penn State majoring in civil engineering.
Brown was also an industrial arts mantle holder.
When asked why he wants to play in the Big 30 Game, he said, “I
have wanted to play in this game since the Pee Wee League.”
His biggest thrills are “making a game-winning tackle, making a
block and having our running back go for a 90-yard touchdown.”
He also enjoys being in front of the fans and being the “best
player I can be.”
Brown enjoys being with his family, hunting, fishing, playing
paintball and riding four-wheelers.
His favorite teams are Penn State and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Troy Polamalu is his favorite player.
Additions to the New York roster include Kevin Butler of Olean
Walsh, Tim Goodier of Franklinville and Eric Todd of Gowanda.
Butler, 6-0, 160 pounds, was a tight end on offense and an end
on defense.
Butler will continue his education but hasn’t made a final
decision as to what school he will attend.
He was nominated for the Western New York All-Academic football
team. He was athlete of the month twice, was the most
athletic-senior superlative and was on the first-team offense for
the Monsignor Martin football league his junior and senior
years.
“I want to play in the Big 30 Game because I just love playing
football,” Butler said.
His biggest thrill was upsetting Cardinal O’Hara 3-0 in a
playoff game after having lost to Cardinal O’Hara 54-13 the
previous week. Butler enjoys playing sports and lifting.
Former Buffalo Bills’ wide receiver Andre Reed is his favorite
player and the Buffalo Bills his favorite team.
Goodier, 6-1, 205 pounds, played tackle on offense and nose
guard and end on the defensive side of the ball.
Goodier will attend Elmira College and major in graphic design.
He is a member of the National Honor Society. He was the unsung
hero in football and the most improved baseball player.
“I want to play in the Big 30 Game because I love football and
want to play one more game,” Goodier noted.
His biggest thrill is getting teammates fired up when things
aren’t looking so good.
In his spare time he can be found drawing, listening to and
playing music and playing sports.
The Tennessee Titans is his favorite team and Jonathan Vilma, a
linebacker for the New York Jets, is his favorite player.
Todd, 6-2, 190 pounds, was a fullback/linebacker for
Gowanda.
He plans on attending Buffalo State and will major in criminal
justice.
In 2004 he was voted rookie of the year.
“I want to play in the Big 30 Game because I want one last
chance to show what I have in my last game as a high school
senior,” Todd said.
He likes staying healthy and coming back every year stronger and
even more ready to play.
Among his hobbies are model cars, working on cars and working
out and training.
His favorite team is the Buffalo Bills and Michael Vick his
favorite player.
