Owls seeking revenge against Moon

Bradford High will have a chance to exact some revenge tonight
in the second round of the PIAA Class AAA basketball playoffs.

The Owls (17-9) will play Moon High School (23-5) at 7 o’clock
at Edinboro University. Two seasons ago, Moon defeated Bradford in
the western finals.

“They are very good,” BAHS coach Dave Fuhrman said. “They have
good size and are deep – playing 10 kids.

“Even though they are big they play an uptempo game. They like
to run the floor. They will play a man-to-man halfcourt defense and
they like to zone press.”

Moon is led by Dan Walsh, a 6-2 senior point guard; 6-4
sophomore Brian Walsh; Andy Dowdell, a 6-0 swingman; and Tyler
Hersperger, a 6-4 center.

“Dan Walsh is going to Edinboro University to play basketball,”
Fuhrman noted. “His brother, Brian, is a very good player for a
sophomore.

“Dowdell is a good shooter. Hersperger is their best inside
player.”

Moon’s fifth starter is either Vince Valenzi, a 6-0 guard, or
6-6 Chris Geannot. Another key player is 6-8 R.J. Rush.

“They shoot well,” Fuhrman maintained. “We are going to have to
play very well. Our kids should be playing with a lot of confidence
especially after Friday’s performance (against Blackhawk).

“We have to come out very aggressively and attack. The keys will
be shooting the ball well, holding our own on the boards and
handling their pressure.

“I’m proud of the way our kids have come on. We have gotten
better in recent weeks. We are peaking at the right time. We are
ecstatic to be playing. I like our chances.”

Moon has won the WPIAL (District 7) three consecutive
seasons.

“It’s hard to win it one year let alone three consecutive
years,” Fuhrman emphasized.

“We lost to them in the western final two years ago. It’s a
chance to get a little revenge.

“I have them well scouted. They do a lot of the same things they
did two years ago. They are coached by Jeff Ackermann, who is in
his third year. They are an excellent program.”

Tickets are still available for the game, according to BAHS
athletic director Tim Walter. They can purchased in the athletic
office at Bradford High 8 a.m.-1 p.m. today.

Prices are $6 for adults and $3 for students. At the game, all
tickets will be $6.

Tickets can only be purchased with cash.
