Buffalo, N.Y., man goes to state prison for heroin, cocaine deliveries

SMETHPORT — A Buffalo, N.Y., man was sentenced Thursday in McKean County Court to a term in state prison for selling heroin and cocaine.

Ronald E. Miller Jr., 37, of Buffalo, will serve 30 to 60 months in state prison with credit for 111 days of time served for two counts of possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance and one count of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer.

He pleaded guilty Sept. 8 to allegations that on May 4, 2015, he sold 1.4 grams of heroin and an “eight ball” of crack cocaine during an investigation by the McKean County Drug Task Force; when officers moved in to arrest him, he fled in a vehicle, drove it into a yard, then fled on foot.

Also in court, Adam C. Quigley, 30, of Bradford, pleaded guilty to charges stemming from two separate cases. He’s charged in one case with flight to avoid apprehension and in the second with institutional vandalism. District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer said that on July 12, Quigley caused $1,047 in damage to the tempered glass at the McKean County Jail. In the second case, Quigley left a halfway house where he was staying while he was on state parole, according to his attorney, Dennis Luttenauer.

President Judge John Pavlock — who rejected a guilty plea from Quigley a week ago because Quigley disagreed that his actions should have been considered fleeing from police — on Thursday accepted Quigley’s second attempt to plead guilty. However, the judge recused himself from any future court appearances related to Quigley’s cases. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled to take place before a different judge.

Jacob L. Miller, 19, of Bradford, will serve one to two years in state prison with credit for 102 days of time served and pay a total of $3,478.98 in restitution for charges stemming from two cases. In one case he’s charged with burglary and theft by unlawful taking, and in the second he’s charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and a summary charge. Miller pleaded guilty Aug. 11 to allegations that on July 29, 2015, he drove an automobile without consent from the owner; then, on June 5, he took $978.95 worth of items from a Bradford home.

Skyler T. Manhart, 21, of Bolivar, N.Y., will serve 81 days to 23 ½ months in McKean County Jail with credit for 81 days of time served and pay restitution of $1,115 for charges of receiving stolen property, criminal trespassing and theft from a motor vehicle. Court records filed at the time he was first charged indicated he and several others were accused of siphoning diesel fuel from heavy equipment belonging to Ceres Township and taking items from a camp and a box truck.

Andrew M. Berg, 28, of Bradford, will serve five years in the Intermediate Punishment Program for a charge of driving under the influence of 12 different controlled substances and a summary charge.

John D. Morrison, 33, of Bradford, will serve 60 to 120 days in McKean County Jail with credit for seven days of time served and 14 months of probation for a charge of simple assault and a summary charge. Morrison pleaded guilty Aug. 11 to allegations that on June 3, he walked into an apartment rented by two women and struck one in the head, and he appeared under the influence of alcohol in public.

Harry L. Keller, 42, of Bradford, will serve eight days to four months in McKean County Jail with credit for eight days of time served for a charge of harassment. He pleaded guilty Aug. 11 to allegations that on Dec. 10, 2015, he made threats over the phone to staff at School Street Elementary School in Bradford, saying he would physically harm a teacher at the school.

Donald W. Peterson, 48, of Cyclone, will serve 18 months of probation for a charge of recklessly endangering another person and a summary charge. He pleaded guilty Aug. 11 to allegations that he raised a long gun to two adults and three juveniles — ages 3, 5 and 10 — and he threw a chunk of wood at a man’s leg.

Bryan J. O’Neil, 26, of Duke Center, will serve 18 months of probation for a charge of simple assault. O’Neil pleaded guilty July 7 to allegations that on Feb. 25, he hit a female in the face, giving her a black eye.

Ashley K. Plants, 20, of Shinglehouse, will serve 12 months of probation for a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jacob A. Ortz, 20, of Bradford, will serve six months of probation for a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or a controlled substance and for six summary charges.

John H. Kroah, 62, of Bradford, will serve six months in the Intermediate Punishment Program for a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and a summary charge.

Kadeem L. Weldon, 23, of Harrisburg, pleaded guilty to a charge of receiving stolen property. According to Assistant District Attorney Ashley Shade, on Nov. 12, 2014, Weldon received three stolen Xbox games valued at $34.40. He will serve nine months of probation.

Timothy M. Williams, 28, of Olean, N.Y., will serve nine months of probation for a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Joseph A. Green, 50, of Eldred, will serve six months of probation for a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and summary charges.

Troy N. Reed, 23, of Bradford, was accepted into the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition Program for drug allegations.
