Kane 27, Bradford 26

KANE — In yet another defensive battle for the Bradford boys basketball team, the Owls fell just short against Kane.

Trailing by a point with the game’s final possession, the Owls missed a shot but put the rebound back into the net. The game clock’s waning seconds had already expired, however, leaving Bradford with a 27-26 loss.

“The defensive effort is there, we just didn’t make enough stops to secure victory,” Bradford coach John Bennardi said. “We were 1-of-12 from beyond the arc and missed a bunch of bunnies inside. We had a lot of shots that looked like they were halfway down and went back out.”

Of Bradford’s five losses, Wednesday’s defeat was the third time this season that the Owls have held an opponent under 30 points yet come out on the wrong end of the scoreboard. Kane beat Bradford up on the boards, securing 11 offensive rebounds to Bradford’s one.

“I give Kane all the credit in the world,” Bennardi said. “They’ve always been a scrappy bunch and their coach does a nice job with them. They did a nice job switching defenses and made shots when they needed to.”

Andy Jekielek led Kane with a game-high 16 points, while Jack Bell added six points. Cam Austin scored eight points for Bradford, and Jake Franz and Dalton Dixon each tacked on seven points.

“This doesn’t define our season at all,” Bennardi said. “Our schedule is not easy, and every game we’re in is a dog fight. They’re facing adversity and smiling at it, we just didn’t hit enough shots to overcome it tonight.”
