BUFFALO, N.Y. — Amir Billups, a starting point guard for the Buffalo 716ers, was killed in a multi-car pile up in Morrow County, Ohio, near Columbus on Saturday.
Billups, 24, is a second cousin of NBA star Chauncey Billups.
Amir Billups graduated in 2008 from Starpoint High School. While at Starpoint he scored 855 points as a four-year starter on the varsity team.
He attended SUNY Fredonia where he played on the Blue Devils basketball team for three of his four years as a college athlete, averaging 12 points per game and over 700 points. While at Fredonia he picked up the nickname Bucketz.
Billups joined the 716ers for their inaugural 2013-14 season. During this first season, Billups averaged over 8 points per game, scoring a total of 93 for the season.
The 716ers are an expansion basketball team currently playing in the PBL (Premier Basketball League).
The team takes its name from area code 716, the telephone area code for Buffalo and much of the rest of western New York.
