Come April, area residents may no longer have to cross state lines in order to grab a slice of Renna’s well-known pizza.
Work is continuing on the Our Renna’s restaurant at the former Dari-Hut, at the corner of Kendall Avenue and East Main Street in Bradford. Owner Lonnie Ours of Eldred has two Renna’s eateries in Olean, N.Y.
“There are lot of people talking about it. I keep hearing that from different people,” Ours told The Era on Monday afternoon.
For a quite a while, Bradford area residents have wanted a Renna’s pizza location in McKean County. Now their wish is coming true.
Because of the excitement, Ours said he believes the restaurant will do well here.
Remodeling is under way at the future Renna’s location. He said the hood will be installed in a few weeks, and electrical work is in progress.
And while the Bradford area has plenty of pizza establishments, Ours said previously that he is not worried about competition.
“We have the same competition in Olean. So, I think we’ll be good,” Ours said.
The recipe sets Renna’s apart from the others; the food is homemade and includes special sauce, Ours said.
“I think everyone is getting excited,” Ours said, adding the owners are enthusiastic as well.
Ours plans for Our Renna’s is to have such menu items as pizza, subs, hoagies, hamburgers and hot dogs. There could be specials, too, including spaghetti.
Although the restaurant will not have much ice cream as was at Dari-Hut, there’ll be some on the menu, he said.
The former Dari-Hut building wasn’t the only spot Ours was eying, however. He looked at the Bradford Mall in Foster Township and Valu Home Center plaza in Bradford. He eventually settled on the Dari-Hut building, recently closing on the property.
The former Dari-Hut, which been had been open for several years, closed in 2014 following the death of its owner.
Ours is expecting to bring on six to 10 workers at the Bradford location, including pizza throwers and cashiers. Applications are not officially being taken yet.
Ours has two other locations — Renna’s Pizza at the Olean Center Mall on North Union Street and Renna’s West & Mia Gelato Cafe on West State Street, both in Olean. Renna’s has been in operation for more than three decades.
