A brief meeting of Bradford City Council Tuesday saw the appointment of a part-time firefighter, a change in a bank account and the purchase of a new police vehicle.
Andrew Piganelli was appointed as part-time firefighter/emergency medical technician with the City of Bradford Fire Department, as recommended by Chief Brett Butler.
The bank account change was to close the city’s capital reserve account and to open a new capital reserve account at Hamlin Bank. The agenda noted the reason for the change was fraudulent checks, with Mayor Tom Riel noting after the meeting that the checks were part of a scam.
Council approved the payment of $62,865.86 to Utilitac for the purchase of a new police vehicle, noting it will be financed through Laurel Capital Corp.
Mayor Tom Riel was appointed as voting delegate to the Pennsylvania Municipal League at the 2024 municipal leadership summit resolutions committee meeting and annual business meeting to be held next month in Scranton.
Council also rescinded a resolution appointing Kris Goll to the Bradford Sanitary Authority, as the first resolution had the term lasting until Dec. 31, 2028. They immediately passed a new resolution with a term ending Dec. 31, 2027. Terms on the board are five years.
At the end of the meeting, councilman Tom Pecora, who oversees accounts and finance, explained the city’s minimum municipal pension obligation for 2025 is $503,915.
