A Marvindale woman lost her life in a collision with a water truck at 8:49 a.m. Thursday on U.S. Route 6 in Hamlin Township.
Jessica L. Smith, 31, was killed in the crash, said McKean County Coroner Mike Mascho. She was an ER nurse at UPMC Kane and was coming home from work when the collision took place.
Reports indicated that U.S. Route 6 was shut down from Mount Jewett to Hazel Hurst for several hours while state police investigated. Volunteer fire departments from Mount Jewett, Kane and Hazel Hurst, and Kane ambulance were at the scene.
A GoFundMe called “Support for Travis Smith’s family after tragic loss” was set up later Thursday by the sister of Travis Smith, Jessica Smith’s widower. The couple have five children. The fundraiser stated that Travis Smith is “disabled due to an accident that took place a few years back. This now leaves him unable to drive or work. As well as making it very hard for him to get around without the use of a cane.”
The fundraiser is to help Smith with his children and “not have to worry about the financial aspects of things right away.”
The investigation into the crash is ongoing. No further information was immediately available.
