ST. MARYS — A Kersey man is currently facing several felony charges in district court after allegedly stealing $11.871.82 from his employer since December 2015.
Alexander William Cherry II, 24, has been charged with felony counts of theft by unlawful taking-movable property, theft by deception-false impression and theft by failure to make required disposition of funds.
Trooper Tyler Thompson of Ridgway-based state police said an investigation into Cherry began on July 5 as Joseph Krise reported to police that Cherry had been pocketing money belonging to the First Chance Inn since December of 2015.
Thompson wrote in the affidavit that Cherry had been voiding customers’ bills and pocketing the money while he was employed at the First Chance Inn. Krise reportedly told police that he did not realize what Cherry was doing until large amounts of money started to go missing.
Krise reportedly confronted Cherry, who allegedly admitted that he was voiding out customers’ bills and pocketing the money.
According to the affidavit, Cherry was fired on June 3.
Krise provided police with a record of all of the transactions that were voided, and a total of $11,871.82 was allegedly pocketed by Cherry.
Thompson wrote in the affidavit that he interviewed Cherry about the allegations and was reportedly told by him that the money was taken to feed a drug habit.
Cherry is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Mark S. Jacob at 9 a.m. Nov. 22.
Online court documents do not list an attorney for Cherry. The commonwealth will be represented by the Elk County District Attorney’s Office.
