SMETHPORT — A Kane man is in McKean County Jail for allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment — to return items belonging to her, as well as taking some things he had left behind.
Shane Thomas Horton, 27, of 102 Hemlock Ave., is charged with burglary, a first-degree felony; criminal trespass, a second-degree felony; and two counts of criminal mischief, third-degree misdemeanors.
At 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Horton entered the second floor apartment at 303 W. Main St. without permission, forcefully gaining entry through a locked door by breaking the locking mechanism. Once inside the apartment, he returned property belonging to the victim, and took personal property belonging to himself, court records read.
He also knocked over a garbage can inside the apartment, spilling refuse onto the floor. He left the residence onto Main Street, breaking the glass in a second door, court records allege.
Horton was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Bill Todd and remanded to jail on $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Sept. 22.
