(TNS) — Iran is reportedly still trying to exact revenge for the 2020 drone strike ordered by then-President Donald Trump that took out that country’s elite force military commander.

According to multiple published reports, the FBI is hunting for an Iranian intelligence officer who they say is actively plotting to kill Mike Pompeo, who was secretary of state under Trump, among other officials.

Pompeo and Brian Hook, special envoy for Iran under Trump, are reportedly on Iran’s “hit list” for their roles in the fatal drone strike on Major General Qasem Soleimani, commander of Iran’s elite Qods Force, according to a detailed report in Semafor.

Soleimani was killed in Baghdad on Jan. 3, 2020.

Both Pompeo and Hook are currently receiving around-the-clock security due to the severity of the threat, the report says.

Believed to be behind the plot is Majid Dastjani Farahani, age 41. He is described as a suspected member of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security.

The FBI’s Miami field office issued a ‘Most Wanted” public alert for Farahani last Friday. The FBI says Farahani has been recruiting “individuals for operations in the U.S., to include lethal targeting of current/former USG officials,” according to Semafor.

The Most Wanted notice says Farahani speaks Farasi, French, Spanish and English and frequently travels between Iran and Venezuela, the New York Post adds.

Given that the alert was issued by the Miami field office, it’s possible the hunt for Farahani and any of his potential recruits could be centered in Florida.

Previously, members Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp were indicted by the U.S. Dept of Justice in 2022. The indictment says they were plotting to murder Trump’s former national security adviser, John Bolton, who served in the White House in the months leading up to Soleimani’s death, Semafor reports.
