EMPORIUM — A candlelight vigil was held in Emporium to honor Cyle Strahl, 29, a former Emporium resident reportedly found dead in his Virginia Beach, Va., home over the weekend.
A suspicious death investigation on the 600 block of Red Horse Lane in the Lake Edwards section of Virginia Beach where Strahl lived is being treated by police as a homicide.
Officer Lonnie Cain of the Virginia Beach Police confirmed a suspicious death investigation is taking place and said no further information is being released at his time due to the fact that as of Saturday no next of kin had been notified.
Cain said more information would be forthcoming. The investigation is ongoing, he added.
A Virginia Beach Police incident report initiated at 11:18 p.m. March 29 lists “murder/non-negligent manslaughter” as the crime, but contains no reference to a victim, weapon or a specific home address.
An obituary for Strahl says he died unexpectedly at his Red Horse Lane home on Saturday. He is survived by a daughter of St. Marys and fiancee as well as family and friends in Emporium.
The Barnett Funeral Home notice says Strahl was born July 24, 1984, in Coudersport and graduated from Cameron County High School in the Class of 2003.
He was currently employed at W.T. Anderson Corp., a construction company, in Virginia Beach.
A memorial service will be held at the Barnett Funeral Home in Emporium at 11 a.m. Monday.
In the days since Strahl’s death, online communities have sprouted up with hundreds of area residents sharing remembrances of Strahl as a beloved community member, passionate musician and dedicated family man.
