A Bradford woman is in McKean County Jail for allegedly stabbing her mother in the abdomen during an altercation at a Bradford Township home Sunday evening.
Jennifer M. Paulik, 47, of 848 W. Washington St., was charged with aggravated assault with extreme indifference, a first-degree felony; aggravated assault with serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon, second-degree felony; seven counts of simple assault and three counts of recklessly endangering another person, all second-degree misdemeanors.
According to the criminal complaint, at 7:50 p.m. Sunday, the McKean County 9-1-1 Center dispatched Bradford Township Police to Paulik’s residence for a 9-1-1 hang-up call from the residence. While dispatchers were attempting to call the residence back, a neighbor called and said police were requested at that residence immediately for an unknown problem.
When police arrived, Paulik’s mother, Jacqueline Haskins-Adams, and her husband Kit Adams were in the driveway near the front porch, and immediately told police that she had been stabbed and had serious bleeding; EMS was requested. When police asked who had stabbed her, Haskins-Adams said, “My daughter Jen.”
Kit Adams told police that Paulik “had been drinking and was out of control,” and was being held on the floor inside the home. When police went into the residence, Jennifer Paulik immediately told them that her husband “had been cheating on her and that she told her mother to leave, it was none of their business,” the complaint stated.
Her husband, Joe Paulik, told police that he had been out fishing and when he came home, Jennifer Paulik started arguing with him, aimed a pellet gun at him and then threw it at him. He said the argument lasted at least an hour, with her punching and scratching him, the complaint stated.
Joe Paulik told police that he had called her mother and stepfather to come help him, because Jennifer Paulik was “totally out of control and had her car keys and was attempting to leave,” the complaint stated.
When Jacqueline and Kit Adams arrived, Jennifer Paulik told them to leave as it was none of their business what was going on. The argument continued and she became “physically abusive” toward her mother, the complaint alleged. She went to the kitchen and grabbed a knife, telling her mother to leave. She threatened all three of them with the knife, walking them “around the entire living/kitchen area in a threatening manner,” the complaint stated.
She then lunged at her mother, stabbing her in the right abdomen, causing serious injury. Paulik had to be forced to the ground in the kitchen for the knife to be removed from her hand. During the attempt to get her to stop, Kit Adams was lacerated with the knife, the complaint stated.
Jacqueline Adams was flown via medical helicopter to UPMC Hamot for emergency medical treatment, the complaint stated.
Paulik was arraigned before on-call District Judge Bill Todd and remanded to jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. She is scheduled to appear in McKean County Central Court on Thursday.
