Kinzua Bridge State Park Complex will offer a variety of programs in April.
First up is the Step into Spring walk set 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Elk State Park.
Meet DCNR staff at the beginning of Maple Trail near the Army Corps boat launch. Search for signs of spring and try to find some emerging springtime wildflowers. Maple Trail is an easy trail with minimal grade, perfect for families and those looking for an easy hike. Dress for the weather and bring refreshments.
From noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Bendigo State Park will host Trout Tips at the pop-up table beside Bendigo Creek (near the pool). Learn some facts you may not have known about trout, and ways we can protect and conserve waterways.
Kinzua Bridge State Park staff will lead a hike into the valley on the Kinzua Creek Trail from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday. Meet near the entrance to the Sky Walk, take in the scenery while park staff point out springtime flora and fauna, and share stories about the bridge. Participants should prepare for a more difficult hike, and dress for the weather. This event will be postponed in the event of adverse weather.
Join park staff in celebrating World Art Day by learning about nature journaling from 2 to 4 p.m. April 13 and 14 at Kinzua Bridge State Park. Meet staff in the top-floor exhibits and classroom in the Visitors’ Center. Participants will begin in the classroom and take a short outdoor walk to practice their nature journaling skills after learning the process.
Binoculars for Beginners is set 2 to 4 p.m. April 27, when participants can borrow a pair of binoculars and, after a short lesson on how to use them, test their skills on the Sky Walk. Play a fun game of binocular bingo to view different animals and landforms you can see from the bridge.
A Leave No Trace Trail Walk is slated noon to 2 p.m. April 28 with park staff on the General Kane Trail. Learn the principles of Leave No Trace ethics and put it in practice on the trail, enjoying park scenery along the way. General Kane Trail is 1.6 miles long and relatively flat. Bring refreshments.
