Flaming Zippo lighter graphics will flank Bradford’s T-F Racing
Team’s Ford Mustang GT race car in the 2006 Grand-Am Cup road
racing series.
The joint announcement of Zippo’s 11th year of sponsorship of
the Bradford-based racing team was made by Zippo Chairman of the
Board George Duke, grandson of Zippo founder George G. Blaisdell,
and by T-F Racing owners Gary Smith and John Kohler.
Zippo first sponsored T-F Racing in 1996. Since then, the team
has won 11 sports car road races in three different series, all
with production Ford Mustang-based race cars.
“Zippo is a local company, employing local people, but dealing
in a global market,” said Smith. “T-F Racing is the same way. We
raced in three countries last year.”
“John, Gary and the entire T-F Racing team have always
represented Zippo in a professional manner, no matter where they’ve
raced in the Americas,” said Duke. “They don’t win every weekend,
but you can’t imagine how firm a belief they have that they can
succeed.”
The Grand-Am Cup Series, which enjoyed ground-breaking success
in 2005, starts its 10-race 2006 season at Daytona International
Speedway Jan. 26-27, coinciding with the 44th running of the Rolex
24 At Daytona.
The Grand-Am Cup Series is televised in the United States and
Canada on SPEED Channel and distributed globally through ESPN
International. To learn more about the series, visit

“Last year we bit the bullet and built a highly-specialized 2005
Ford Mustang GT race car,” Kohler explained. “It took some time to
learn all the ins and outs of this new car, but our improving
results throughout 2005 show that we’re now competitive with the
best of the independents in the Grand-Am Cup series.”
