Two people were taken by medical helicopter after sustaining
injuries in a two-car crash at 10:22 a.m. Sunday on Derrick Road at
the intersection with Narrow Gauge Road.
A car driven by Allison Hassek, 25, of Bradford, was traveling
west on Derrick Road, and another car driven by Thomas R. Milliron,
32, of Gifford, was traveling east on Derrick Road. Near the
intersection with Narrow Gauge Road, Hassek’s car was completely in
the eastbound lane, traveling west, and collided head-on with
Milliron’s car, according to Foster Township Police.
Police said evidence at the scene showed that Milliron’s car was
half-way off the road to the right, trying to avoid the collision.
Milliron’s car spun off the road and came to rest on Narrow Gauge
Road. Hassek’s car spun around in the center of the road, where it
came to rest.
Milliron self-extricated himself and was laying next to the car
when police arrived on scene, according to police. Hassek was
extricated using the Jaws of Life to open the door of her car.
Police said both drivers were conscious and speaking at the
scene.
Both Hassek and Milliron were taken by Bradford Ambulance to the
Bradford Mall, where they were taken by two Mercy Flight
helicopters, one from Olean, N.Y., and the other from Buffalo,
N.Y., to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo. They both were
listed in stable condition Sunday evening, according to patient
information at ECMC.
Both cars had severe damage and were towed from the scene,
police said.
Both lanes of Derrick Road were shut down completely from about
10:30 to 11:50 a.m. Sunday, according to police.
Police were assisted at the scene by the Derrick City Volunteer
Fire Department and Fire Police, the Bradford Ambulance and
Kane-based state police Trooper Ted Race, who was out on patrol in
that area. Also, the Limestone (N.Y.) Volunteer Fire Department
assisted with securing a landing site at the Bradford Mall for the
helicopters.
Police said the investigation continues, but the accident was
not weather-related as the road was dry.
